Characteristics of brushless motor:
If you choose brushless DC motor, you will see many similar models, such as 2216, 2814 and so on. The
top two are stator outer diameter (mm) and the last two number is stator height (mm). The bigger the
outer diameter and the height of the stator, the greater the core of the stator and the more the number of
winding turns , the bigger power of the motor. Of course, the larger of motor stator size, the greater the
power, but the heavier the weight.
If a motor is 2216, the stator's outer diameter is 22mm, and the stator height is 16mm. The stator outer
diameter and stator height are proportional to the power of the motor, and obviously the 2218 is higher
than the 2212 of the motor stator, and the power of 2218 must be bigger than 2216. The size of the model
can see the power two of the two motor with same OD, but this is generally for the same stator diameter
and different height. or same stator height different stator diameter.If the brushless motor stator height
and stator outer diameter are not same as ,it is difficult to compare withmodel.
It should be noted that this dimension refers to the stator itself, not the size of the motor, the thickness of
the motor shell, the shape of the heat dissipation, the height of the base and so on, which all affect the
external size of the motor, so the judgement of the power using the stator size is standard and reliable
than that of the external size.
2. Number and pole number of motor slots
1) The number of slots (N): the number of grooves in the stator core. A brushless motor is a three-phase
motor, so the number of grooves is a multiple of 3.
2) The number of poles (P): the number of magnetic steel on the stator, the magnet must be used in pairs
of the north and south poles, and the number of poles must be even.
The slot number and pole number of the motor are directly written as the number of slot number N pole
number P, such as 12P14N, which is the meaning of the 14 pole of the 12 slot.
3) Characteristics of the number of slots and the number of poles
a. The number of slots (N) and the number of poles (P) are inversely proportional to the maximum
the smaller the number of slots (the number of poles), the higher the best speed of the motor.
For example, the highest speed of 9N12P is higher than that of 12N14.
b. In the same case of the number of slots(N), the number of poles (P) is proportional to the torque,
the greater the number, the greater the torque.
c. Under normal circumstances, the slot number (N) and pole number (P) increases, the sense of
frustration (the smaller motor will feel a sense of resistant frustration when the motor is not charged with
the hand rotating motor), the theory of motor vibration will be less, but because the slots are hard to do
The KV value of the brushless motor is defined as the speed / V, which means that the input voltage is
increased by 1 volts (V), the rotational speed (turn / minute) of the brushless motor is increased. From
this definition, voltage and motor idling speed follow a strict linear proportional relationship and are
